| Hot Strawberries and Quinoa, Recipe below |
You can find Quinoa at just about any local health food store. You can also find it at larger grocery stores. Quinoa is in our weekly diet, so for a family of 6 I hit the Bins of Winco for mass quantities. (actually my sweet husband does, I just make the list.) Here are a few simple and quick ways I prepare, cook, and we enjoy it!
QUINOA HOT CEREAL
Cook Quinoa according to directions. I like to make mine hearty, so as soon as i see the tail from the seed I taste test (about 20 mins. in boiling water) and drain. It can be left in warm water longer for a cooked oatmeal texture (aka "mushy")....
My strawberries are in the bowl already, I pour Quinoa over strawberries, add my milk, (if milk is cold put in the microwave for a minute after your taste test)
Next add anything from Brown Sugar and Nutmeg, to Agave Syrup and Cinnamon, Honey and Fresh Mint...heck, throw it all in!! Taste test. YOU CAN'T GO WRONG! Quinoa absorbs any flavor.
You can make a complete cereal of Quinoa in one pot, by boiling Quinoa with fresh or frozen Blueberries and Strawberries.
As the tail of the seeds appear, start adding milk (Vanilla Hemp, Almond, or even Soy) which ever you prefer and spices. Serve warm.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any better...save from your pot of leftovers and reheat the next morning. Hot nutritious cereal to go..heat it up at work!!! Don't be surprised if the intensified and fully absorbed flavors make you moan in your cubical. Leaving you satisfied and energetic,, you'll walk instead of snack on your morning break!
However Today I am making one big pot of Quinoa and will show you in my next post.. what else to do with all that GREAT QUINOA!!
